"It's the Politics, Baby"
In yesterday's Key West Citizen there was an announcement that Jack Bridges will be interviewed today on the local radio station. He's a candidate (independent) for the Florida Keys Mosquito Control Board in District 5. I was curious about the existence of such a board but more about it's members having to be elected to the office, so, I did some very limited research. Apparently the Republican candidate is for mosquitos - especially those that carry disease. The Democratic candidate has proposed a program in which neutered mosquitos are introduced into the current bug population so that they can't reproduce. Of course he wants the program to be federally funded. So far, I haven't been able to find out what Mr. Bridges' platform is. Stay tuned.

Now this is productive legislation
ReplyDeleteHow many people will be employed to cut off the testicles of those pesky male mosquitos? Keep us in the loop about this!
ReplyDeleteThis of course is a truly microcosmic example of the political agendas at work in the country today.
ReplyDeleteThe Republican is pro-life, thus supports mosquitos. Of course he doesn't worry that the proliferation of mosquitos might endanger living humans - it's his role to protect the lives of unborn mosquitos.
The Democrat of course wants to employ family planning practices. Sex is healthy. Let the mosquitos enjoy life but simply prevent them from unwanted pregnancies. Perhaps a simpler method would involve passing out mosquito condoms at mosquito schools (of choice) as opposed to the neutering program, but if neutering promotes jobs growth, that's a good thing, too.
The independent will be the most interesting of the lot. It's likely that he'll want to conduct a focus group with the mosquitos to help them come up with their own solution. We don't need this unnecessary war between humans and mosquitos. A two-state solution is a posible outcome, with mosquitos getting a portion of old Key West where they can prove ancestoral ties, and humans taking newer parts of Key West. And perhaps the mosquitos will simply get to feed on naked homeless men as part of a comprehensive multi-problem solution for all.
These are indeed big questions. Bold action is required, especially prior to Fantasy Fest. You're a noble man for being a part of these things.
